tips & tricks for preparing for hello from home sessions

home is the starting place of love, hope and dreams.

Stay true to you!

These sessions are all about giving a nod to 2020 at home. Is there a DIY project you've been working on at home & would love documented? A new hobby you've been really into? Does the little one have a favorite toy this season? Don't want to change out of your favorite WFH loungewear? Let's shoot it!!

Don't worry about everything being picture perfect.

There's beauty in the everyday, documenting your history as it truly is. However some things to consider if these are options for you:
If we're coming to you, clear an accessible outdoor space for us to use for shooting [front yard, steps, backyard, driveway, sidewalk, etc.] of any trash & bulky items [i.e. trash cans or machinery] that you might not want to be photographed. If the parking spot in front of your home can be kept open or reserved so that we can back-up to shoot a wider landscape scene that would be amazing too!

Bring the inside, outside.

Furniture from the indoors can totally make for a unique space outdoors! Is there a blanket, chair or barstool in the house that you really love?! Bring it out & we can use it to make things a little more interesting ;) Indoor house plants can use a little extra Vitamin D so definitely bring those out if you want to include them too!

Let's have fun!

It's definitely been a rollercoaster of a year so let's make some beautiful & unique memories to look back on together!

colors & combos

  • Choose pieces within a certain color palette but don’t be too matchy matchy by having everyone in the same colors.
  • Don’t be afraid to mix up solid colors + with patterns Bright bold colors photograph well versus all white which can lose detail/get blown out by the sunlight.
  • Bring layers to change up the look + Bay Area weather is so unpredictable.
  • Bring options if you want me to help pick & back-ups just in case we need to change 😉
  • Be true to you!

general session tips

one

Bring a few snacks (or doggo treats) that everyone loves just in case we need to get their attention & sometimes it can be super cute as a part of the props or great for action shots (try to stick with dry/less-sticky or messy foods that can stain faces).

two

For sessions later in the day, let the children take a nap beforehand so that they'll have more energy & be more attentive during the shoot.

three

Blankets are a great prop to have on hand + they can be super versatile for lying on or wrapping up in for snuggles when the weather gets chilly.

four

Feel free to bring a few toys or cute props you may want to use & we'll try to incorporate them into the shoot. Significant memorabilia or items can be sentimental & also beautiful details to have in your shoot.

five

Don't feel like these have to be super "fall/holiday" themed at all! We want you to have beautiful photos to display year-round :D
